What is Tazorac Cream?

Tazorac Cream is a prescription medication that is classified as a anti-acne, retinoid cream.

What is Tazorac Cream used for? 

It is indicated for the treatment of plaque psoriasis and acne vulgaris. 

How does it work?

When activated from the pro-drug from by de-esterification, it exerts ant-acne effects by binding to all three members of the retinoic acid receptors.

How do I take Tazorac Cream? 

Use Tazorac cream as directed by your physician, generally it is dosed once daily in the evening. Use a thin layer applied to the affected area.

What should you know before you take Tazorac Cream?

If you are a woman of child bearing potential you should be using an effective form of birth control as Tazorac is a known teratogenic substance that can cause fetal harm. Before starting this therapy you should have a negative pregnancy test within 2 weeks prior to starting treatment. 

If you experience localized skin irritation, excessive burning, redness or peeling, you should discontinue until the skin has normalized then continue using the medication at a reduced dosing interval or if you are using it for psoriasis you may switch to the lower concentration. 

Tazorac Cream can increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun. Patients are advised to avoid excessive sun exposure and if it can not be avoided ensure that adequate sun protection is used (sunscreen, clothing).
