Jalyn is a prescription medication that is classified as a combination product containing a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor (dutasteride) and an alpha-adrenergic antagonist (tamsulosin).

What is Jalyn used for? 

It is used for the treatment of symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in males with enlarged prostates

How does it work? 

The dutasteride component inhibits the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) which is the androgen responsible for causing the enlargement of the prostate gland. The tamsulosin component antagonizes the alpha-1 adrenoreceptor which results in the relaxation of the smooth muscle located in the bladder neck and prostate, improving BPH symptoms.

How do I take Jalyn?

This medication should be taken as directed by your physician, 30 minutes after the same meal every day. Do not take more than prescribed. This medication should not be crushed, chewed, or opened prior to use. While taking this medication, your doctor may also order prostate-specific antigen tests (PSA) before starting treatment and during treatment to monitor for prostate cancer.

What if I miss a dose?

What should you know before you take Jalyn?

Use caution when going from lying down to standing or sitting up as this medication can cause orthostatic hypotension which may result in falls and/or injury

Use caution when using with moderate CYP3A4 inhibitors, strong or moderate CYP2D6 inhibitors or CYP2D6 poor metabolizers. Avoid use with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors.

Risk of hypotension is increased when used with other alpha-adrenergic antagonists, concomitant use should be avoided

Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should not come into contact with Jalyn capsules

Assessment of other urological diseases, including prostate cancer, should be considered prior to treatment with Jalyn
