Interceptor Plus Information     

Interceptor Plus is an oral medication for preventing heartworm disease due to Dirofilaria immitis. It is also used for treating and controlling adult roundworm, adult tapeworm, adult whipworm, adult hookworm, and several other types of worm infections in puppies and dogs.  The dogs must be at least six weeks of age before they can be given the drug. The dogs and puppies must also weigh at least two pounds before they can be given the drug.  The drug is classified as a macrocyclic anthelmintic drug. It is an isoquinoline anthelmintic and this makes it reliable for controlling adult worm infections.

Recommended Use

Interceptor Plus is a prescription drug and you should use it according to the doctor’s prescription.  The drug should be given orally and it is to be chewed by the dog or puppy.  If the dog swallows treat whole, then you can break the drug into pieces and feed it to the dog. Make sure that the dog consumes the entire dose and you should take some time to observe the dog after administering the medicine. Make sure that no part of the medicine is rejected or lost; you can re-dose the dog if this happens.

Additionally, the drug should be given once in a month after the dog is exposed to mosquito bites and it should be given for a minimum of 6 months after the last seasonal exposure.
