Dulera Information

Dulera is an inhaler. It is a combination medication containing formoterol and mometasone. Formoterol is classed as a bronchodilator medicine. Its work is to widen and relax the muscles in the airways. This leads to improved breathing. On the other hand, mometasone is a steroid. Its role is to block the release of substances in the body that trigger inflammation. So, Dulera is prescribed for management of asthma attacks. It cannot cure or control an active asthma attack, though. Don’t get this inhaler for a kid who is under twelve years of age.

How To Use

Dulera inhaler should be used the way the physician recommends. Follow their instructions fully to get the best results. You will also avoid deadly side effects due to an overdose. Dulera is not your rescue medicine for an ongoing asthma attack. Get an inhaler device for controlling active attacks. The normal dosage for preventing asthma attacks consist of two inhalations. Inhale these orally two times a day.

Every inhalation has either 100mcg or 200mcg of mometasone with 5mcg formoterol. That is: 100mcg/5mcg or 200mcg/5mcg. The biggest daily dose is 800mcg/20mcg.  This works for adults and kids who are twelve years old or older.  This medicine may improve your symptoms in a week’s time. So keep using until your doctor asks you to stop. This inhaler contains 120 inhalations. Once they are depleted, discard the inhaler responsibly. If you skip a dose, forget it altogether. Resume your normal dose instead.

Side Effects

Dulera can cause the following side effects:

  • Signs of a common cold. These are a stuffy nose or a runny nose, sinus pain
  • Cough
  • Throat irritation
  • Headache.

Mometasone is known to affect kids’ growth. If yours stops growing, let its doctor know. Also, let them know about signs of an allergic attack, chest pain, fast heartbeats, wheezing, blurred vision and fever.

Precautions

Don’t start your Dulera dosage until you talk to the doctor about your health. Inform them that you have:

  • A weakened immune system as mometasone can worsen it
