It acts as an agonist at the glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor which increases insulin secretion and decreases glucagon secretion to help lower blood glucose levels.

Directions

How do I use my Ozempic (Semaglutide)?

Your Ozempic (Semaglutide) is administered once weekly (at the same day each week, at any time during that day), with or without food, as directed by your doctor. This medication is administered subcutaneously in the upper arm, thigh, or abdomen. Never reuse needles or share your Ozempic (Semaglutide) pen with others.

Step 1:

  1. Prior to administration, wash your hands with soap and water.
    1. Check the name and colored label of your pen to ensure you are using Ozempic (Semaglutide).
    2. Remove the pen cap.
  2. Check that your Ozempic (Semaglutide) in the pen is colorless and clear.
    1. The pen contains 2 mg of semaglutide, but you can only select doses of 1 mg.
    2. If the medication looks cloudy, do not use it.
  3. Tear the paper tab off a new needle.
  4. Then, push the needle into the pen (push needle straight) and turn until it is tight.
  5. Remove the outer needle cap (do not throw away the cap).
  6. Remove the inner needle cap (throw away the inner needle cap).
    1. A drop of the medication may appear at the tip of the needle. This is normal, but always check the flow of the medication when using the pen for the first time.

Step 2:

    1.  Check the flow of your Ozempic (Semaglutide) pen before the first use.
      1. Turn the dose counter until it shows the flow check symbol.

  1. Hold your pen facing upwards. Press and hold the dose button in until the dose counter shows “0”. The “0” must line up with the dose pointer. A dose of the medication should appear at the tip of the needle. If this does not occur, repeat the steps up to 6 times. If there is still no drop at the tip of the needle, change the needle and repeat the steps again.
    1. Do not use the pen if no drop appears at the tip of the needle.

Step 3:

  1. Select your dose (1 mg). Always use the dose counter to check if the dose of 1 mg has been selected.

How much medication is left?

  • If there is not a full dose of your Ozempic (Semaglutide) in the pen (if the dose counter stops before 1 mg), do not use it. Use a new pen.
